What makes a Guru real?
There is nothing like genuine guru, authentic guru, or is there one?
Real is what mirrors as real to me. Real guru is the one on whom I see reflections of my true self. When I see my true self reflected in someone, then that one is my guru in very authentic meaning of the noun-adjective 'Guru', and is indeed very real to me.
When I am ready to see reflections of my true self, my Guru will appear. That brings me back to the old saying: "When the student is ready, the teacher (Guru) appears."
Or does it?
What if the student is suffering, is hungry and is lusting for true reflection but there is no information provider, no teacher for the student?
The student is suffering, but has not suffered enough to recognize pain from suffering.
The student is lusting for truth, but is not starved enough to truly seek it.
For all our knowledge is within us, and springs from within us. When the student is ready, truly ready, the Guru will appear.
When the student is ready, Guru appears! What is the nature of this beast?
Our perceptions are (nothing but) product of (un-countable) reflections of our own self. So, everything around us is already reflecting our true self in myraid of ways. But, only when we are ready to remove the veil of illusions and uncover our eyes, we can truly see the reflections as they are. When we start unveiling our eyes, we start seeing ourselves reflected everywhere in million different forms. Then, everyone is our Guru.
In other words, Guru appears only when we are ready to receive the true reflections.
(As my Guru, says, when I am angry at some one, then it is my anger that someone is mirroring. The person in charge of the energy of anger is me. Conversely, when I see beauty, I see my own beauty reflected from other mirrors. )
So, there can be multiple Gurus?
Both yes and if so- Oh! What a fortune!
What is the nature of a Guru?
Guru is my supreme mirror. It is not the supremeness of my Guru that makes her so. Instead it is the supreme reflections that I see on her which make her my supreme mirror. This supreme mirror is not my most pleasant mirror, but as Sathguru says in the video above, when my hunger for truth is stronger than my dislike or aversion of truth, then I am drawn to her, her who is this this vast mirror that helps me face my beliefs and see them exactly as what they are- illusions.
That supreme mirror is my Guru. And she is my supreme mirror, not merely because of the infinitely joyous state that I have found after seeing my reflections, but she is supreme because she is my mirror to truth, to satiating my hunger for getting rid of delusions.

I haven't seen the video but are these his or your views...and i am asking coz if they are yours, i wanted to know if you found one? ...somehow i am not content with this statement "The student is suffering, but has not suffered enough to recognize pain from suffering.
ReplyDeleteThe student is lusting for truth, but is not starved enough to truly seek it."
Yes, Sudhir. I found my Guru. But I am taking a long time to learn. The views are mine, but they are my thoughts, not my learning.
ReplyDeletePain is real, and suffering is optional. Suffering is our volition. For as long as I was tied with my suffering, I failed to see my reflections as they are. I failed to see my Guru. So, I say that student needs to learn by self and see her pain from her suffering.
Lust and desire are not enough to genuinely pursue knowledge and learning.
